Trip overview

If you’re gonna go overseas to sharpen your photography chops, is there a better place to do it than in the “Paris of the Americas”?

Buenos Aires, Argentina – the cultural heart of South America. Dishing out endless inspiration for world-class local artists and now, for you.

On this done-for-you trip, you’ll get everything you need to live in Buenos Aires while developing your photography skills, including:

  • Intensive photography course. You’ll have 4 intense training days a week before hitting the streets with your tutor and putting your new skills in action around Buenos Aires. This course is suitable for all experience levels and can be taught in English, Spanish, or a combination of the two!
  • Local cultural experiences. To help you get into the swing of Argentine culture, you’ll get 3-5 cultural activities included every week. These may include things like a city tour, Tigre and delta tour, city graffiti tour, pub crawl & night out with your students…the list goes on.
  • Private accommodation. Relax in your private room in a shared apartment after a long day of tasting wine in one of the most popular neighbourhoods in the city.
  • Health Club membership. Get your reps in with free access to a fully-equipped, centrally located gym – with classes – that you can attend for free. Or if you’d prefer more choreography in your exercise, join a tango lesson instead!

Whether you’re into portraits, architecture photography, fine art photography – or anything in between – Buenos Aires will dish up endless interesting subjects for your lens.

The glamour of the old days is still visible around the city. The architecture is detailed and regal, hinting at the untold stories of Argentina’s past.

Although this glamour is fading with time, with political graffiti suggesting an undercurrent of discontent. The result? An intoxicating juxtaposition of beauty and glamour with political unrest and urban decay. A striking subject for any artist – photographers included.

While most travellers come for a whirlwind sightseeing trip of the city, you’ll get to know the nooks and crannies known only by locals. You’ll be uncovering the history of the city and its inhabitants, learning how to tell their story with your camera.

On top of this, you’re in Buenos Aires! You’ll marvel every day at living in one of the safest and most beautiful cities in South America. You could spend a lifetime exploring the diverse neighbourhoods, thriving art scene, or perfecting the tango on long nights in a local milonga.

And if you’re thinking about a career in photography, this will be yet another impressive feather in your cap for your portfolio of work.

This trip is perfect for you if you’re looking for a deeper connection on your trip to Argentina. You’ll stumble upon stories about the city and the people who call it home that’d you’d never discover on a normal trip.

Trip details

This intensive photography course is dedicated to changing the way you perceive the world, to get you thinking like a photographer every second of the day. The course is made up of a combination of group and private sessions, with the option to learn in English, Spanish or a combination of the two!

The group work is where you will learn the fundamentals of both digital and analogue photography. Here you will learn how a camera works, how to pick lenses, use filters and get to know your equipment inside out. Then the one-on-ones are where your inner photographer really comes out to play.

This dedicated time with your expert tutor gives you the opportunity not only to sharpen up on those technical skills but brings in the element of being an artist. Your tutor will drill deep into what type of photographer you want to be, point out little details that you missed and help improve every single photograph that you take. This is a rare opportunity to get inside the head of a master photographer.

Then there are the evenings/night sessions. Your tutor takes you out in small groups to hidden spots in Buenos Aires to photograph this endlessly photogenic city and its beautiful residents. Learning in the field like this, with a professional at your side is priceless.

You will arrive in Buenos Aires with the reassurance that you don’t have to do a thing, that we have taken care of the details, so you can focus entirely on your craft and absorb the beauty and history of the city. You’ll be staying right in the greatest areas of the city, either Palermo, Belgrano, Barrio Norte or Recoleta, each one bursting with character and packed with bars, restaurants and cultural experiences waiting to be discovered. Your school doesn’t just want you to have a great learning experience, they want you to fall in love with the city, so there are a host of evening activities lined up that will help you meet people, explore Buenos Aires and become a long-term lover of all things Argentina.

If you want to explore Argentina or even South America further, then you couldn’t be in a better spot. A short ferry ride and you are in the laid back loveliness of Uruguay, a country that should never be overlooked. You are close to Iguazu Falls, a must-see natural wonder and you are flights or long bus journeys away from the south coast of Brazil, a whole adventure in itself.

Taking photos is always great, but not everyone takes the steps to become a true photographer. This is your chance, and why not encapsulate Buenos Aires as your first project.

Trip itinerary

Arrival

You will be collected from the airport and transferred to your accommodation. If you choose to, arrive a few days early to acclimatise and explore Buenos Aires before your classes start in earnest.

Weekdays

Your classes do not officially start until the afternoon each day, however many people choose to participate in Spanish lessons in the mornings even though they are an additional cost. This creates a much more authentic experience and helps you feel more part of the city. Buenos Aires is a beautiful city to become a part of and learning a bit of the language helps you to integrate into its ebb and flow.  Four days a week, your intensive photography lessons take place between 3-8 pm. During this time you will participate in group lessons, where you will cover the basics, the technical side of photography that everyone needs to know. Then come the one-to-one sessions, which is where you will begin to truly excel. Your professors are able to drill down into what makes you a photographer, polishing up the technical aspects that need work, but helping you to discover your own particular style and skillset. It is during these sessions that you will stop being someone who takes photos and develops into being a photographer.   In addition to these courses, you will be taken out to discover a side of Buenos Aires that hardly anyone gets to see. With your professors leading the way, you will be split into small groups and taken to spots around the city in the evening, to develop your style and get your creative mind working overtime. Not only great for your photography skills, but what a special way to see more of this incredibly photogenic city.  When you are not in classes, you will find a variety of free cultural activities offered throughout the week. Our partners in Buenos Aires have arranged a whole series of cultural activities and city tours to get you to know the city much better and feel like you are becoming a true porteño. If your lessons and your cultural activities conflict, no problem, things can be rearranged to make sure you get the most out of this incredible cultural immersion.

Why Study

The main purpose of this trip is to help you master your photography skills in Buenos Aires.

You’ll get a solid technical foundation so you know your way around your camera. Your skilled professors will also help you develop yourself as a photographer, helping you tell your story through your photos.

You’ll join a group of international students for 4 days of intense classes a week. These classes are split into group and one-on-one sessions.

But there’s only so much you can learn about photography in the classroom. So you’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore the city by night – with your professors by your side – to help you integrate the lessons you’ve learned during the day.

Your one-on-one sessions with your professor will help you with any technical difficulties you’re having but it will also bring the element of art into your photos. They’ll help you get to the bottom of the type of photographer you want to be so you can focus on developing your style.

They’ll help you improve every photo you take by pointing out little details you may have missed. This is your chance to be taken under the wing of a master photographer so you can master your craft.

And then there are the night sessions. Your tutor takes you out in small groups to the hidden – and most photogenic – spots across Buenos Aires.

The result? Your photography skills have picked up some serious momentum since travelling to Buenos Aires.

But you’ll also go home with a comprehensive body of work from your time in Argentina which could form part of your professional photographer portfolio one day.

However, many of our customers choose to entrust their pets to a family member or friend, embark on their adventure, and return home to wagging tails and furry cuddles.

We know that life can get in the way of travel, so all our trips come with a great deal of flexibility. In most cases, if you cannot travel on your selected date, you can place your trip on hold to deal with whatever is holding you back, and continue in the future without incurring any penalty. You may also have the option of transferring to an entirely different trip and destination as well, or even transferring your trip to a friend or family member. In the event that you need to outright cancel your trip, if you give us 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put toward any other trip that we offer, including tours through third-party providers, as well as holidays through DealsAway.com, and is valid for 2 years from date of issue.
