Trip overview

France is well-known for excelling at the finer things in life, so can you imagine what their summer camps are like?

Well, you can stop imagining and start experiencing it firsthand—because on this trip, you’ll be part of the camp staff at an enchanting summer camp in France!

Your days will be dedicated to helping the kids create unforgettable memories as you teach ancient survival and leadership skills amidst the breathtaking landscapes of France, or provide support at the camp as a staff member.

Don’t speak French? No worries! The camp is run in English. So while you could get a chance to practise your French, you’ll be able to communicate with everyone in English.

In exchange for all the fun and games, you’ll get cosy camp accommodation and 3 meals a day. This means your salary (€1400 a month) can go straight to your post-camp adventure fund!

And when you go with Global, you get:

  • France summer camp match – Have your summer camp opportunity in one of two camps in France in your hands and ready to go before you leave home.
  • Camp accommodation – You’ll stay right at the camp alongside your fellow team members, but the accommodation is separate from the kids' dormitories. Single or twin-share rooms. Timber chalet in the forest, anyone?
  • 3 meals a day – All those adventures are hungry work! Stay energised with 3 meals a day provided at camp.
  • 3 nights of hostel accommodation – Enjoy 3 nights at a hostel anywhere in France to keep your adventure going.
  • And much more!

Keen for adventure? Love the outdoors? Enjoy working with kids? Then this is the trip for you!

There are three exciting roles—group leader, activity instructor, or general camp staff (catering/housekeeping)—at two different summer camps in France.

But don’t let the options fool you; there's plenty of competition for cool jobs like these. Many would-be camp staff miss out each year by taking too long to book.

And this is a trip you don’t want to miss out on!

Can you imagine waking up in a log chalet nestled in a French forest? Or even a château a short train ride from Paris? Even though it’s a job, it’ll hardly feel like work.

And the best part? Nearly everything is arranged for you before you even step on the plane, so you’ll know exactly what to expect before you leave home.

Trip details

In many parts of the world, children spend part of their summer holiday at camp, where they build confidence and independence, learn new skills, make friends, and enjoy time in nature.

Guided by the camp staff – which is you on this trip!

There are three types of positions at two different camps (Ardèche or Paris):

Group Leader (Ardèche camp only): As a Group Leader, you’re the main link between the guests (age 12-17) and the camp management.

You’ll be responsible for leading excursions, managing activities, and setting up fun and well-structured evening activities to keep everyone entertained. You’ll work closely with the guests to make sure they’re taken care of and loving life.

Activity Instructor (Paris camp only): Your main responsibilities include leading on-site activities like axe-throwing, archery tag, and bushcrafting.

The Activity Instructor is also responsible for supervising and organising the guests outside of the structured activities and excursions. You’re one of the main points of contact between the guests and the camp staff.

General camp staff (both camps): Your responsibilities will include things like catering, housekeeping, barkeeping and shop work, and other essential camp functions.

While you’re there, you’ll serve as a mentor to the kids, guiding and inspiring them to chase their dreams!

Your role involves 35 hours of work spread over 5 days, with 2 days off each week, giving you plenty of time to explore with your new travel buddies.

Speaking of buddies, this trip comes with a built-in travel crew. The bonds you’ll make with the other team members will be with you for life. Especially if you spend your time-off exploring the country together.

The weeks will be busy with a range of activities and responsibilities, so it’s best to save your most epic side quests for after camp, when you’ll have more time to enjoy and explore!

Requirements

To qualify for this trip you must meet the Working Holiday France visa requirements:

  • Travellers from Canada, Argentina, and Australia – between the ages of 18-35.
  • Travellers from New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, South Korea, Taiwan, and Uruguay – between the ages of 18-30.

What extra costs will I have?

Flights, health insurance, visa, criminal background check, souvenirs & spending money.

Accommodation & meals

A big perk of this trip is that nearly all your living expenses are covered while you’re at camp, including accommodation, all meals, and some fantastic added perks!

You’ll spend most of your time with the campers, but don’t worry—you won’t be bunking with them!

Camp accommodation in the Ardèche will be in a cosy timber chalet nestled in the forest. These chalets are designed for either two people (with separate rooms) or single occupancy in a smaller cabin. Some cabins have their own bathroom, and other cabins share with just one other cabin.

Besides your accommodation, the camp offers:

  • Activities available for staff, such as paddling, hiking, climbing, football, mountain biking, swimming, and caving
  • A swimming pool
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Laundry facilities
  • Sports and games facilities/equipment

Although the camp feels tucked away in the woods, the local village of Vagnas is within walking distance, and larger towns are just a 15-minute drive away.

Within a 3-hour drive, you’ll find bucket-list landmarks, including the Alps, the Massif Central, and La Camargue.

Camp accommodation in Paris will be in a shared room with one roommate (same gender) in the staff accommodation building. Each room has a shared bathroom, and the building is conveniently located on the same grounds as the main château, so you won’t have to travel far to get to camp.

In addition to your accommodation, the camp includes:

  • A staff common room (with a pool table and basic cooking facilities)
  • An onsite bar
  • A football (soccer) field
  • A swimming pool
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Laundry facilities
  • A TV and games room

The château grounds have plenty to keep you busy, and Lesigny is a charming little town just 20 miles from the centre of Paris. When you’re ready to explore Paris, a short train ride will take you right to the heart of the city. And if you’re a Disney fan, Disneyland Paris is only a 30-minute drive away!

Please remember, whilst we take preferences into account, you could be placed in either of those locations. The earlier you finalise everything and do your interview, the better chance you have of securing a spot at your preferred location!

Trip itinerary

Before you leave

We’ll help you secure your camp position before you leave home, including obtaining the necessary visa. Our team are experts at guiding travellers through the visa process, ensuring you get it quickly and approved on the first try.

Arrival

Once you arrive, a member of our partner organisation will pick you up from your designated pick-up point. If your placement is in Paris, you’ll be picked up at Charles de Gaulle Airport. If your placement is in the Ardèche, you’ll be collected from the Montélimar train station. You’ll then be driven directly to camp, where you can meet the other camp staff and settle in.

Ongoing

Each day will vary based on your camp location and role, so we can’t provide a fixed schedule. As an Activity Instructor or Group Leader, your tasks will vary based on the day’s activities. You’ll serve as a leader and guide for the campers, helping them build confidence while having fun and engaging with nature. In a general staff role, your responsibilities may include working in the retail shop, cooking meals, and other tasks specific to your position. You’ll work 35 hours over 5 days, with 2 days off over the weekend for most roles. While this trip is packed with exciting activities, managing a large group of energetic campers can be hectic. Expect to feel pleasantly exhausted at the end of each day! This will be a busy few weeks filled with awesome activities from sunrise to sunset. On your days off, you might want to relax and save your own adventures for after camp. Once camp is over, Europe is your oyster! You’ll have savings from your time at camp, and the entire continent is just a short, affordable flight away. With 3 nights of hostel accommodation in France included in your package, you’re well on your way to an unforgettable vacation! If you’re looking for travel companions, we can help with that too! Can I bring my pet along?

At Global Work & Travel, we share a deep love for animals and fully understand the special bond you have with your pet. We recognise the challenges of embarking on a trip without them. Due to travel restrictions, requirements, and limited pet-friendly accommodations among our host organisations, we regretfully cannot facilitate their inclusion in the journey. However, many of our customers choose to entrust their pets to a family member or friend, embark on their adventure, and return home to wagging tails and furry cuddles.

What happens if I need to cancel my trip?

We know that life can get in the way of travel, so all our trips come with a great deal of flexibility. In most cases, if you cannot travel on your selected date, you can place your trip on hold to deal with whatever is holding you back, and continue in the future without incurring any penalty. You may also have the option of transferring to an entirely different trip and destination as well, or even transferring your trip to a friend or family member. In the event that you need to outright cancel your trip, if you give us 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put toward any other trip that we offer, including tours through third-party providers, as well as holidays through DealsAway.com, and is valid for 2 years from date of issue. As international travel can be complex, your options are based on the progress of your trip organisation and our support team can assist you in finding the best solution for your needs.
