Trip itinerary

The beauty of this trip is that you have the freedom to create your own adventure. But, for a rough idea, this is how most travellers spend their first few days:

Week 1+

Upon completion of your online TESOL course, and should you wish to also teach in Japan, you’ll be presented with a local teaching contract before you’ve even left home. Once you’ve touched down at the closest airport to your placement/training location in Japan, a transfer will be waiting to take you straight to your accommodation. Some schools will require you to do 2 weeks of training in a central location before heading off to your placement, in which case you’ll also be provided with shared, most likely en suite accommodation with 2-3 other new teachers. After that you’ll be provided with an exact guide of the best way to utilise Japan’s famous public transport system to get to your school!

Settle into your permanent Japanese accommodation, meet your new colleagues and dive into the culture and wonder of your new home. Your school is going to assist you with setting up your bank account and provide you with tax assistance. They’ll also give you assistance in finding the best possible local sim for you!

You’ll get to experience some of the cultural orientation activities planned in Nagoya with other teachers from the intake. You may already feel like you know some of the people there if you’ve been active on the private Facebook group and at teacher meetups. So this will be a great opportunity to get some face time, while exploring some incredible Japanese sights. You’ll get to experience two of the following activities including; a Japanese cooking class, walking tour of Nagoya, a visit to a historical Japanese castle and a trip to Tokugawa Art Museum. These events happen twice per year and usually coincide with the most popular contract start dates, so you can jump onto the one closest to your arrival.
