Trip overview

With over 71% of the Earth’s surface covered in water, true adventurers know there’s a whole world to be discovered below the surface.

And what better place to do this than on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia?

On this trip you’ll contribute to keeping the reefs and Posidonia seagrass meadows in this beautiful region clean and healthy while you polish up your diving skills.

And who knows? You might even stumble across some loot from the legendary pirate nest of the past that hid in the nooks and crannies of this rugged coastline.

On this done-for-you trip, you’ll get everything you need to become a confident diver while contributing to this important reef and seagrass meadow clean-up initiative, including:

  • Dive training – Your first 6–10 days (depending on your diving level) is all about training. For newbies, you’ll get your SSI Open Water certificate so you’re qualified to dive around the world. Already qualified? Your first week will be spent completing an additional level of certification, such as a Marine Ecology course to further your education.
  • Accommodation – You’ll stay right next to a sandy beach in a shared 2-bedroom mobile home only 10 minutes from the Omiš city centre. With private accommodation available at an additional cost.
  • Meals – You’ll get 3 meals a day from the restaurant on-site. For those spending lunch time on the water, you’ll get a packed lunch to take with you.
  • All equipment included – All diving gear including air refills, your own logbook, digital education materials, as well as snacks and drinks on board the dive boat to refuel between dives.

If you’re gonna go diving, you may as well do it along one of the most breathtaking coastlines on the planet.

And while you’re discovering a new world below the surface, you could help clean up the reefs and seagrass meadows to contribute to the health of Croatia's marine ecosystems!

Trip details

This dazzling coastline is one of the premier yachting destinations in the world – just one of the reasons why Croatian people are so well-renowned for their sea-going skills.

Unfortunately, with people comes pollution. Many rivers drain into the Adriatic Sea, dumping their trash with it. And a lot of this trash drifts with the ocean currents and collects in this area.

The good news is that this stretch of ocean remains relatively clean and healthy thanks to the efforts of good people – just like you!

You’ll learn how to dive so you can explore this new world confidently while keeping the reefs and seagrass meadows clean and healthy on your daily dives.

On top of this, you’re in Croatia! The amazing coastline has a healthy scattering of islands and archipelagos off the coast to explore – all packed with history and magic. The cities on the mainland are some of the most majestic in Europe – no wonder Game of Thrones was partially filmed in Croatia.

Can you picture it? You wake up in your comfortable accommodation with the sound of the Adriatic Sea right outside your window.

After enjoying your breakfast at the restaurant on site, you head out into the dazzling waters to contribute to the health of the marine ecosystem around you.

But it’s the epic tales of pirates plundering these shores 100’s of years ago that captivate you at night as you drift off…

And that’s before you’ve taken the time to explore the incredible interior of Croatia.

When you go with Global, you get the full experience for a fraction of the hassle. We offer the complete package for learning how to dive while contributing to the health of the Adriatic Sea.

Our team will help you with the essentials you need to start your new journey with a bang! Including helping you with visas, booking your volunteer spot, securing your accommodation, and a whole lot more.

Requirements

You must be between 18-60 years old and be physically fit enough to dive and carry out manual activities. You'll also need to complete a DAN (Divers Alert Network) questionnaire as a prerequisite to recreational scuba diving. This form should be signed & stamped by a doctor.

What extra costs will I have?

Flights, travel insurance, vaccinations, souvenirs & spending money.

Purpose & impact

The main purpose of this trip is to contribute to cleaning up pollution that flows from many rivers into the Adriatic Sea.

The Adriatic Sea has been a real-life painting of paradise for centuries – its beauty remaining while pirates came and went, empires rose and fell, and technology shrunk the world to fit in a screen.

But now, this is all under threat from plastic pollution.

Thankfully, good people around the world aren’t satisfied with letting plastic pollution ruin the things that make this planet so special.

Which means that every day (weather permitting) there are people out there contributing to this important cause.

And on this trip, you’ll be one of those people.

Volunteer tasks are divided into 2 categories: diving and helping at the recycling yard.

Divers will be responsible for collecting trash from the Adriatic Sea. Those in the recycling yard will be responsible for sorting and recording the trash that is collected. This is then loaded into a national database to help scientists monitor pollution.

You’ll get plenty of diving experience. So whether you're a novice learning how to breathe underwater for the first time, or you’re a pro who’s racking up dives so you can upgrade your certification, this is the trip for you.

Accommodation & meals

Your accommodation will be in a 2-bedroom mobile home with 2 beds per room. Plus, you’re right on the beach next to the Adriatic Sea – so a sea view is guaranteed!

You’ll share a full kitchen, living area, and bathroom. Your accommodation will have WiFi.

Private accommodation is available at an additional cost.

With your beachfront accommodation sorted, what will you do about food?

You’ll get 3 meals a day at the on-site restaurant. You’ll even get a packed lunch on the days you’ll be on the dive boat or in the recycling yard in the camp resort.

Trip itinerary

Arrival

Once you’ve been picked up from the airport, you’ll be transferred straight to your included beachfront accommodation.  Take some time to relax and settle in or to get to know your fellow volunteers on your first night in Croatia!

Initial dive check

In order to accurately gauge your diving skills, you’ll go on an introductory dive with your instructors. They’ll determine whether your skills align with your volunteer duties.  If you’re a newbie, don't worry! Your 10 days will involve getting your SSI Open Water certificate which certifies you to dive all around the world.  If you’re already qualified, the instructors will determine your skill level as it relates to the task at hand and offer training accordingly. For qualified divers: Bring your logbook!!! If you arrive with only your diving certificate and no logbook, you’ll be treated as a beginner diver for safety reasons.

Typical day

Each day will be different depending on your task for the day and whether you're in the classroom getting certified or ready to get in the water! But here’s a general idea of what you may expect:  07:00 – 09:00: Breakfast buffet – served at the restaurant next door to your accommodation.  09:00 – 10:00: Morning shift volunteers will walk over to the nearby dive centre to start working on the day's task.  10:00 – 12:30: Morning shift. This depends on your task for the day, but could include diving the reefs and seagrass meadows while you keep them clean and healthy.  12:30 – 13:00: Lunch time. You will have a packed lunch to enjoy in the field or on the dive boat.  13:00 – 16:30: Afternoon shift of volunteer duties.  16:30 – 18:00: After returning to the local marina on the boat, volunteers will prepare equipment (washing and drying), sort personal dive gear for the next day, take bags of trash to the collection point, and update dive log books.  Those in the recycling yard will sort the waste, measure it, and record it into the national database.  18:00 – 20:00: Dinner.  After dinner, you’re free to relax or explore the nightlife in Omiš with your new friends.  We’ll be in touch with you throughout your stay. If you ever need advice or support our team is available to answer your questions. And our 24/5 Emergency Support Line will help with urgent matters.  Don’t go alone. Go with Global.

At Global Work & Travel, we share a deep love for animals and fully understand the special bond you have with your pet. We recognise the challenges of embarking on a trip without them. Due to travel restrictions, requirements, and limited pet-friendly accommodations among our host organisations, we regretfully cannot facilitate their inclusion in the journey. However, many of our customers choose to entrust their pets to a family member or friend, embark on their adventure, and return home to wagging tails and furry cuddles.

What happens if I need to cancel my trip?

We know that life can get in the way of travel, so all our trips come with a great deal of flexibility. In most cases, if you cannot travel on your selected date, you can place your trip on hold to deal with whatever is holding you back, and continue in the future without incurring any penalty. You may also have the option of transferring to an entirely different trip and destination as well, or even transferring your trip to a friend or family member. In the event that you need to outright cancel your trip, if you give us 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put toward any other trip that we offer, including tours through third-party providers, as well as holidays through DealsAway.com, and is valid for 2 years from date of issue. As international travel can be complex, your options are based on the progress of your trip organisation and our support team can assist you in finding the best solution for your needs.
