Trip overview

India – where life is bursting at the seams.

An entire universe in one country – where each region is so different from the next that they could be on another planet from one another!

A history of ancient religions and mystical gurus have smashed up against the modern world in one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

And, of course, some of the finest and most complex cuisine on this humble rock we call home.

It’s the perfect place to break out of your day-to-day routine and embark on an adventure that will make the world a better place and help you grow as a person.

On this all-inclusive volunteer trip, not only do you get to live and volunteer with a trusted organisation in India. When you go with Global, you get:

  • Volunteer project placement – Guarantee your spot at our screened and vetted project partner in India. Start your volunteer journey without spending months searching for a reputable organisation on the other side of the world.
  • Comfortable accommodation – Quad-share accommodation in the volunteer apartment is provided, including WiFi, laundry facilities, and a fully equipped kitchen. Or choose to stay in a private room with a host family, at an additional cost.
  • Three meals a day – Enjoy a mixture of vegetarian Indian and Indo-western style meals during your trip.
  • Included cultural activities – Enjoy fun weekly activities to fully immerse yourself in the Indian culture, such as cooking, henna, or dancing.
  • And much more!

There’s so much to love about India – no wonder it’s been a traveller’s mecca for decades.

You'll be based in Jaipur, the capital city of the Rajasthan Province located in northwestern India.

Most famous for its 'Pink City,' the Old City of Jaipur is awash in – you guessed it – pink.

You’ll get stuck in with some community-led initiatives addressing some of the most pressing problems in the region.

Choose between:

  • Women or Girls' Empowerment
  • Renovation and Beautification
  • Sports Education
  • Childcare
  • Teaching English

While this is the main purpose of your trip, you’re not in Jaipur just to help create lasting change in one of the most vibrant spots in the whole world.

You're also there to embrace and learn from the experiences and life lessons that come with immersing yourself fully in a culture unfamiliar to you.

Trip details

As a volunteer in India, the vibrant streets of Jaipur will serve as your playground, providing numerous opportunities for exploration and cultural immersion.

During your first few days, you’ll have no idea where to look! Turn your gaze to the heavens to marvel at the architecture? Look around at the smiling faces of the locals you're there to assist?

Or get sucked into the craftsmanship of the block printers, gem cutters, or the ubiquitous blue pottery?

Whatever it is that draws you in about Jaipur, you’ll have at least 4-5 hours of free time a day to explore to your heart’s content, and weekends are open for adventure.

For most travellers, visiting India is a bucket-list experience.

But most travellers don’t get the chance to experience something like this: being fully immersed in the local community while you make a difference is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

And when you go with Global, you get the full experience for a fraction of the hassle. Your volunteer placement and accommodation is sorted before you leave, so you know exactly what you’re getting into.

What extra costs will I have?

Flights, travel insurance, vaccinations, daily transportation, souvenirs & spending money.

Purpose & impact

India was projected to surpass China as the country with the largest population in 2023.

Having such a large population has some unique challenges as the government scrambles to provide a decent standard of living for everyone.

With over a billion people in India, there’s bound to be some who slip through the cracks. And these are the people you’ll be helping on this trip.

You’ll get to choose between 5 different projects to assist with:

Women or Girls' Empowerment

Help women or girls become self-sufficient and lead independent lives through education, training, and advocacy.

Renovation & Beautification

There are plenty of important buildings in Jaipur which need some love to return to their previous glory. You’ll work with the community to identify and restore some of these beautiful old buildings or important infrastructure like toilets.

Sports Education

It’s mandatory for all Indian children to receive physical education classes for sports training – but this isn’t the reality across India! You’ll help out with this important initiative if you’re interested.

Childcare

Care for some of the 31 million abandoned children in India as you help out in a children’s shelter while they wait for foster homes.

Teaching English

Education – a vital key to open the doors of opportunity. You'll volunteer at a fee-free school in an impoverished community, aiming to make education more accessible.

Accommodation & meals

Once you touch down at Jaipur International Airport, your pre-arranged transfer will be waiting. You’ll be taken straight to your volunteer accommodation outside of the Jaipur city centre.

Your standard volunteer accommodation will be in a quad-share dorm within the volunteer apartment, equipped with WiFi, a kitchen, and laundry facilities.

The volunteer apartment is located in a peaceful, residential area outside of the centre, near to the metro that connects to the Pink City, bus station, and railway station.

Nearby garden spaces offer a peaceful and safe ambiance, distinct from the hustle and bustle of the Pink/Old City.

You have the option to enhance your cultural immersion by staying in a private room with a local host family, for an additional cost.

With your accommodation in India sorted and your volunteer placement organised, what will you do about food?

You’ll be given 3 vegetarian meals a day, 7 days a week.

Breakfast is self-serve, offering a variety of food options for you to prepare your own morning meal.

Lunch and dinner will be provided by the project partner or your host family. You can expect typical vegetarian North Indian food for both meals, which is a highlight for many people's trip to India.

In the volunteer apartment you will have access to kitchen facilities to prepare your own food if you wish.

Can I travel with a friend or partner?

Yes you can! Simply tell your Trip Coordinator after booking that your friend is also going and they can link your profiles. For most of our trips we should be able to have you and your friends placed together or nearby. Meaning that you can live, work, play & travel together! But wait there's more! Can I bring my pet along?

At Global Work & Travel, we share a deep love for animals and fully understand the special bond you have with your pet. We recognise the challenges of embarking on a trip without them. Due to travel restrictions, requirements, and limited pet-friendly accommodations among our host organisations, we regretfully cannot facilitate their inclusion in the journey. However, many of our customers choose to entrust their pets to a family member or friend, embark on their adventure, and return home to wagging tails and furry cuddles.

What happens if I need to cancel my trip?

We know that life can get in the way of travel, so all our trips come with a great deal of flexibility. In most cases, if you cannot travel on your selected date, you can place your trip on hold to deal with whatever is holding you back, and continue in the future without incurring any penalty. You may also have the option of transferring to an entirely different trip and destination as well, or even transferring your trip to a friend or family member. In the event that you need to outright cancel your trip, if you give us 84* days notice you can do so with only a 50% cancellation fee. Your refund of the balance will come in the form of a Store Credit which you can put toward any other trip that we offer, including tours through third-party providers, as well as holidays through DealsAway.com, and is valid for 2 years from date of issue. As international travel can be complex, your options are based on the progress of your trip organisation and our support team can assist you in finding the best solution for your needs.
