If a trip has a paid work option, this is not mandatory to do and is there as a means to fund your travels only, and no fee is charged by us for this component. The beauty of this trip is that your days will be filled with structured volunteer duties. You’ll then have the evenings and weekends to explore however you please. As a rough idea, this is the daily schedule you can expect:
Once you have touched down at Chiang Mai International Airport, your pre-arranged transfer will take you to your initial hotel accommodation in the heart of Chiang Mai.
After your night’s stay in the hotel, you’ll head straight to your comfortable volunteer accommodation in Chiang Mai. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll have an orientation where you’ll get to meet the on-site project coordinators and other volunteers, plus learn about your volunteer duties. You’ll also be introduced to the elephants and learn about their history and characteristics.
In your first week, you’ll volunteer at Chiang Mai Rescue Centre, where you’ll be responsible for preparing and cleaning the elephants’ food, cutting food from the plantations, helping with general maintenance tasks around the park, as well as construction, maintaining mud pits and helping out in the local villages.
